12 APRIL 1991 COMMON AGENDA COALITION SCORES FEDERAL BUDGET PRIORITIES
Church Street Play Hits Defense Spending While Social Needs Escalate
The Common Agenda Coalition, a national organization of peace and justice activists
concerned about federal budget priorities in the time of a recession, will be performing
street theater and offering literature to the public in front of the mall on Church
Street, Saturday, April 13 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Performances involving a woman trundling
large coins in a shopping cart to make her tax payment will take place at 12:30 and 1:30
p.m.
On Tax Day, April 15, the Coalition will join the Middle East Action Network (M.E.A.N.)
in sponsoring a rally at the Federal Building on Elmwood Avenue from noon to 1:00 p.m.
Tuesday, April 16, both groups are inviting all Burlington citizens to join them in a
rally by the Statehouse steps in Montpelier, noon to 1:15 p.m., sponsored by the Unity
Coalition, to show support for the human needs priorities of the people of Vermont. A bus,
organized by the Coalition of Vermont Elders (COVE), will leave from the Senior Housing
Project at 10 North Champlain St. at 10:45 a.m. also making a stop at the Champlain Senior
Center at Pine and Main streets at 11:00 a.m. and return by 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $3.00
